Why is the first generation slower?
Each voice is a model of roughly 63 MB that has to be downloaded to your browser once, and the very first run also fetches the speech engine itself. Both are then cached, so every later generation with that voice starts immediately. Switching to a different voice downloads that one too.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Synthesis happens entirely in your browser and your script is never transmitted. The only network requests are the one-time download of the voice model and the speech engine files.
What audio format do I get?
A WAV file, which every video editor accepts. If you specifically need an MP3, any converter will do it in a second, and the WAV keeps full quality in the meantime.
Which browsers are supported?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop. The generator needs WebAssembly and browser storage for the voice model. On mobile it works, but the model download and generation are noticeably slower.
